How well do you know your fur baby

We are famous for our unconditional love, but do you know if we are really happy or not, so here sure some tips to help you out .
"The eyes are the doors to our souls" have you heard that saying ? Well not only is this very true in humans it is also true with us too. It is said that when we are happy not only do the eyes look bright and full of life they will have a normal shape, when we are sad or there is something wrong they change shape , so you need to pay attention to your fur babies shape and appearance of the eyes.
Also when  we are happy our bodies are very relaxed, so look at the muscles are they relaxed or tensed up, just because we are playing with you it really doesn't mean to say we are happy we will play regardless.
Another way to tell if we are happy is to take a good look at our bum, if we are happy it will be held high up in the air and our tail will be wagging intensely in some dogs lie me the whole body moves (I really have no control over this at all and it always makes mum and dad laugh so I then tend to wag it more, if that's at all possible).
When we are happy we will also come to you and throw ourselves on our backs wanting our belly rubbed (a lot) this is a clear sign that we are very happy.
Another sign is and many humans do not know this that a content fur baby is just happy to sit by you with his head on your lap. A relaxed mouth is always a good sign that we are happy and in some breeds we have our mouths slightly apart this is usually though she  we are outside running around as we use this as a way of cooling down. And some breeds like me smile a lot and i mean a lot apparently I'm always smiling.
Also when we are happy we love to eat so if we are off our food that is generally a good sign that there is something wrong and might be a good idea to have us checked over by the vet.
Sleep is also another good way to tell if we are happy and contented we will sleep well and we won't move around too much, if we are fidgeting and this doesn't include our funny dreams either that is normal by fidgeting I  mean moving uncomfortably or we wake a log and change position it might mean that our bed is in a cold place or too hot a place or untidy without buried its worth checking that out before you start worrying too much.
Well I hope this little insight helps and makes you look at us a bit differently  because usually if we are unhappy it normally means that there could be something wrong so this is worth knowing.

Stormy times ahead

Haven't we had some wonderful weather just recently with the odd storm thrown in for good measure, but if your anything like me I really don't like storms they frighten me.
I have a few ideas that might help, firstly try not to pet us too much as that is really a reward and tells us that it's alright to do what we are doing.
Mum says I'm not too bad but her other staffie who is no longer with us use to destroy the place given half the chance he even turned the television over.
Anyway get back to what I was barking about as I said don't pet us or praise us tell us that it is going to be fine and its only a storm that really helps mum and dad more than me but its good to hear their voices.
Secondly it sometimes helps to have a cubby hole to go in some where to hide, mine is in between mum and dads chair its dark there too which I like.
Try turning the television up to drown out some of the noise. And when it's all over then it might be time for a treat or two if all has turned out well and you've behaved yourselves.
This is me hiding in my cubby hole as you can see I pant a lot and sometimes I get so scared I dribble which is quite embarrassing for me.
I really am quite a scaredy cat and i don't like loud noises at all like planes, motorbikes, dust carts and flogas trucks with their clanking bottles and if that one comes along I tend to jump in the bath which drives my mum nuts as I put muddy paw prints and hair everywhere hahaha.
Well I hope this helps and i look forward to hearing from you, oh yes no might even have some exciting news tomorrow so drop by and check it out.
Bye for now woof woof woof

Hot pavements are not good for paws

Gosh its hot, but I do love the Sun I tend to bark at my mum a lot to let me out as I do love a Sun bathe.
But its not good to walk in as it can burn our paws so very quickly unfortunately you don't feel the heat like we do as you wear shoes so the rule of thumb is if you can't walk on the pavements/patio with bare feet then don't walk us. So at the moment we are walking in the early hours of the morning and very late evening.
If you do get burnt paws it is suggested that you take your dog to the vet but if you can't wash the paws in a antibacterial soap and rinse thoroughly. Pat the paws dry with a clean towel and pour over an antiseptic like betadine (you can purchase betadine from amazon for £9.99 a tube always a good thing to have around) over the burnt, blistered paw and allow to dry. This is also good for cut paws as well.

This will also give you an idea of how hot things can get, so please think before you take your fur baby for a walk in this heat.

Poorly pups

Just after Christmas I started to feel very poorly, I was sleeping a lot and really didn't have much energy at all.
My mum and dad was getting quite worried and then I went off, my food and i can tell you for a staff that's unheard of we love our food. So my mum decided that the next day she was going to take me to the vet's arrrgghh not the vet's although secretly I quite like the vet's, they are always very nice to me.

But it was a bit of a shock the following morning I had a rather large swelling on the side of my face so mum booked  me an appointment  with the vets straight away. It turned out that I had an abuse on one of my back teeth and it was going to have to be removed as soon as possible but first they had to get the swelling down so it was a course of pain killers and antibiotics.
Mum and dad asked how much it was and it was going to cost £300 what a shock, but mum said that was ridiculous and had a ring round other vets to see what they would charge.
It was lucky in some respects that my mum's other rescue staff who is no longer with us was under another vet's and she was still signed up to them a d they had a special on dentistry at that moment in time so it was another appointment and then two days later I was in having my tooth seen too.
The problem was that I was a stray and had eaten all sorts particularly Mc Donalds apparently I lived of them for the short time I was a stray and that did my teeth the world of good not.
But now I am all better and i don't have any pain at all which is great, oh yes and mum says that I have become very mischievous haha.
The doc gave my mum some really good tooth paste if your human has a problem brushing your teeth like mine do this is the tooth paste for you because it reacts straight away even if you just lick it off your humans finger, I will post a picture below. It is quite expensive but as my mum and dad say it's worth every penny.
So remember to brush your dogs teeth as I can tell you its not nice having a poorly tooth.

Catch up time

Hello everyone. ......................
I know it has been ages since my human has said anything but we have had a few problems the first being a interweb problem gggrrrr ....
However we are back so what have we missed out. I think it might be best to start at the beginning of the year and i will get my human to do a post a day till we do catch up, I think that's the best all round. So as it has just turned 6 months half a year (I wonder how long that is in doggy years, or perhaps we shouldn't know), we will start with

Christmas

It seems such a long time ago now but I will try my best to remember and i am sure my human will help me out if I forget a few things. Christmas is always a special time in our house my mum just loves this time of year and goes all out with decorating and doing me a special goodie box, but this year she made me a patchwork Christmas stocking or should I say bone.

This is our Christmas tree I think its very pretty what do you think? Just look at all the presents I'm trying to find mine can you see it ?So Christmas day finally arrived and i got my stocking but I was only allowed to open one treat but I did get to choose got to love Christmas can't wait till this year.

Me opening a chew stick packet.
And as I said earlier on my mum made me a doggy stocking I think she is thinking about making some for your humans to buy for you and even though I say so myself they are so much nicer than he ones in the shop, but I'm bias see what you think if your interested why not get in touch by dropping us a line or sending my mum a e-mail at guffie@live.co.uk. Anyway I'm wooing a lot so her are the pictures.
